Really? I've never seen this happen, you sure you're not clicking on a link that has as many new messages as there are comments (in which case, it wouldn't jump very far at all), or that when you jump to a thread with 2 or 3 comments, it's often not enough to scroll. Make your window really short, and it should work no matter what. Maybe that's the effect you're seeing?
really?).. but he's actually serious. And a troll. Buh bye.
Really?
Really? So if I have sex.com in one window and I go to csmonitor.com in another, sex.com might show up in csmonitor's referral stats? Jiminie Christmas.
Really? There are times Joe sounds like he wants to push Matt in front of a subway train.
really? Sure, the number of posts to the front page have gone nuts...But are you willing to deny any of the links and discussions that have been posted by these people? Almost all have yielded worthwhile discussions. And if they've yielded worthwhile discussions, you can't exactly dismiss them simply because a few posters have been working overtime.
Really? That's slightly self-indicting.) The story appeared on fuckedcompany, CNet and ZDNet, all of which I assume have more inside media contacts than Loch and Co.
Really? I'm sorry, I don't see it.
Really? I suspect that Vignette might have something to say about that.
really? How funny....
Really? I thought it was the other way around. IMHO, he was a lot more civil and better-reasoned when he was the site's leading "token conservative". It seems to me that only after other right-wingers started getting away with being rude that aaron let his standards slip.
really?
really? i just performed a google search on pyrads and got nothing on that.
really?) whom always catches me attention. Being a poundian can bring havoc to an academic career, but i just recall the Bolligen that EP won, how his hatred was forgiven by his peers. Don Hall has some remarkable pieces on pound...and im just spilling now...
really? Has this been a secret effort? I didn't hear anything about that before I moved over to MT. Not sure that it would have ultimately mattered, but it certainly would have factored into the decision.
Really?"
Really? How?
really?
Really? Doesn't that place have a Sheriff or anything?
really?
Really?
Ah well. You couldn't really go on and on and on, then, but in Miguel's case, that might be a good thing!
Really? Then just briefly sum up. How do you (generic you) describe the character and content of Metafilter in a paragraph or less? (Again, I don't care about form -- if it's a weblog or a journal or a links page or whatever... and I could imagine what I might say in such a paragraph, but I'm curious what regular participants think.)
Really? I dunno, maybe it's because I've always been attracted to geek girls, but I prefer girls like this over anything on baywatch. To me, they look real, like real girls I knew in college, and I like the playful "you feeling lucky, punk?" attitude expressed on the site and in the photos.
Really? Is tinypea associated with adequacy?
Really? Is tinypea associated with adequacy?
really? I can't read/hear that without mentally filling in "like my new video, teen steam."
really? Great, MetaTalk is two years old...woo hoo! Why not just mention it in the last thread of little to no point, here?
really? MetaTalk is two years old...woo hoo!
Really? Okay...I can kind of see the point in that.
Really? Great. Say, why don't I also buy low and sell high? Then I'll be cheerful and rich. Can't beat that, can I. How easy everything is! You dick.
Really?
really? I mean, they write daily (or every other day,) have some pet issues but are otherwise unfocused, and they're not generally considered Journalism (note the capital J) but rather the fluff of the newspaper. The only difference I see is their choice of medium, and many are making the leap, as noted by Beam himself.
really? cool. im quoating her diary. so to cite her as anything but what the book says is not correct. for instance...
Really? If so, then you really ought to include in your list people who post meaningless one word messages to threads just to hear themselves talk.
really? You guys think I'm just some untouchable peasant? Peon? Huh? Maybe so, but following a broom around after shitheads like you for the past eight years I've learned a couple of things. I look through your letters, I look through your lockers, I listen to your conversations. You don't know that but I do. I am the eyes and ears of this institution my friends...By the way, that clock's twenty minutes fast."
really? how does this warrant a post?"
Really? I suppose this isn't surprising; after all, where are today's teenagers going to pick up basic secretarial skills? Bet they don't know what "cc" stands for either. *snicker*
Really?
Really?
Really?
Really?
Really?
Really?
Really? Why did you change it then, JollyWanker? You may be one of the lucky people who can flaunt a three-digit user number and you now use a lame 13,000+ number?
really? On blogroots, the fonts are fixed at I think, 12px. On MetaFilter, everything is in points, and should be set to your prefs (the front page should be the same as the subpages).
But yeah, not really an urgent concern (you haven't upgraded to mozilla 1.1 yet?)
really?
But yeah, not really an urgent concern (you haven't upgraded to mozilla 1.1 yet?)
Really?
really? 'Round these parts, we call said cars "kiddie cars" as they all seem to fit a pattern: small, Japanese manufacture, darkly-tinted windshields, lots of manufacturers' stickers, racing stripes and colored lights along the bottom rails, bonus points for "Calvin peeing on something" stickers, invariably driven by teens or young 20's-ish males and females, oh and don't forget, music blaring away - mostly Eminem this summer, I observe. We don't call them "ricers" because although mostly Caucasian young people are driving, there are distinct Latino/black influences at work, each ethnic demographic adding definitive visual and audio effects to the whole.
Really? That's how I figured out my way around here. (some would argue that I haven't figured it out, I'm sure)
really? what's your username"
Really? I think the "new wave" is perhaps the best thing to happen to this place since I've been here. By and large they've been intelligent, literate, respectful of the site, and interesting. Contributing a freshness comparable to eating a York Peppermint Patty.
really?
really?), I don't see why she gets three or four threads in a ten-day period with little complaint, yet this gadget post crops up six months after the original and the post gets taken to MeTa. criminey.
Next in MetaTalk: breathing--is it really necessary? You know, I can hear the air going in and out of your nose, over and over ... just knock it off, ok? Oh, and you type too loud.
what a bunch of clowns, ITS A USER NAME. I tried to change it twice before. you two are really gluttons for punishment.
really? Never change yovr vser name, clav, it's perfectly brilliant.
Really? Why? Don't the realize we're too busy masturbating in MetaTalk to waste our time looking at a bunch of pictures?
Really? Seems to me that breathless breaking news posts are routinely lame. Here's what's being overlooked in that thread: even if the original post had linked to a breaking TV news story, it would still have been a font of what we know an hour and a half later was speculative misinformation.
Really? Why? How?
Really? I didn't really see this as a particularly great time in MetaFilter's history. The front page is loaded with news posts, and comments don't seem a whole lot different than usual. Perhaps I'm just not noticing.
Really?
Really?
really? ok, anything that alters the american economy affects the whole world, but that would justify almost anything as "big news". it seems more like domestic politics than "big" (isn't "international" a good way of measuring big?) news to me.
Really? Why does he have two? Is this something to do with his undercover work in Atlanta?
Really? Is there one in the works. Did I miss the one skyscraper seems to be, might be, referring to?
really?
really?
really? Yet another "Newsfilter!" MeTa thread that says the same things all the other "Newsfilter!" MeTa threads say, THEN descends into banter and jokes, or a MeTa thread that goes straight to the jokes? They're both about as productive. By cutting out the Newsfilter discussion the usual chase-yer-tail-inna-circle bullshit was cut in half, anyway.
Really? How nice of you to say so Commander Tact.
Really? Wonder why I banned your account long ago? Because people asked for it.
really?
Really? Why? How was I even on your radar?
really?
Really? Can I see?" I said. Then he said "well, right now I'm checking out alt.binaries.tasteless, so consider yourself warned."
I believe in intuitive knowledge-- one that ultimately stems from individual experiences based on info we gather as go through life. I don't react to counterarguments because 1) they don't really counter anything or disprove any assumptions and 2) are not arguments but invectives-- your views are not original etc etc etc.
Really? You should check out interpersonal communication some time. It's pretty fuckin' sweet, if you ask me.
Really? I've even heard of people filling in time sheets thusly:
really? Previous thread on a page? How does it work? Are you sure you don't just mean Back/Forward (which is not the same thing)?
Really?
Really?

really? then, tell me the meaning of spaccare il capello in quattro
really?
Really? It seems to me that you're setting the bar pretty low. And if you care so little about MeFite opinion, why do you keep justifying yourself?
More generally, you have to look at a specific post to see whether the one link per word technique is being abused. In the particular post that started this misguided MeTa thread, there wasn't really a problem because you were talking about fewer than ten words and links, and the structure kind of emphasizes the whole "huh; who'da thunk there'd be that many sites dealing with something as obscure as the Indian rope trick?" thing. One link per word, when there are so few words, is hardly difficult to navigate. One link per letter is very difficult and evidence that someone's trying to be cute.
really? That's an interesting coincidence.
Really? Because I don't remember posting anything about "lefties" or "commies" in the entire thread, or even now do I see its relevance. It's amazing what passes for "bang-on" these days.
Really?
Yes, really. Matteo's point was that the "unclench, fucko" contingent have no substantive argument, and the illustrative aside about "commies" is just a convenient red herring for you. Also, you have yet to explain why we need to wait for Asian mefites to comment before we can complain about your remarks (or respond to sudama's point with more than a content-free sneer), and you have not defended your use of the specious "but I have lots of Asian friends" argument. And were you not "speaking presumptively for Asian members" when you claimed that, because they have not posted in this thread, they must be in agreement with you?
Really? Whoda Thunkit?
Really? he's my hero and role model.
Really? he's my hero and role model.
REALLY?? If that's the case, methinks you don't know what you've wrought....
Really? That's sad, if only because it's an important piece of history.
Really? It's perfectly okay for me to suggest offensive stereotypes and pass it off as "free speech"? I always thought that you were in favor of civil discussions, not verbal abuse.
really? I mean how can you know anything? oh shit the matrix!
Really? Girls are either being forced to have sex against their will, or they're just as interested in it as boys.. after all, it takes two to tango.
Really? What makes you so sure? Just because you read it doesn't mean a majority of anybody has even heard of it.
really? i mean - have you tried it, and made sure it stays at the bottom of the oil and doesn't float around on the surface?
Really?
Really?
Well it was on BBC Canada and the actors were poncing about with silly accents, so yes, really.
really? Who are you? Nobody to me. You may have a point that it weakens my argument to respond to a meta thread like this, but it's my argument after all, and if I fail to persuade ... I fail to persuade. Oh well. I actually think the original metafilter thread turned into an interesting debate about polling, even a grown up one without a lot of the usual partisan b.s. But I could be deluded. And for the record, in response to others, yes, it would be a bad thing if polls were posted every day for the next nine months. What a healthy discussion this has been! Thanks to everyone for helping me to understand better the kind of debate you are seeking here. It is always interesting and entertaining to see many different points of views and minds blend in the great stew that is public opinion. God bless all of you, fellow netizens. You are the great hope of civilization.
really? stop making Kerry the nominee, dammit!
Really? I have heard of yam cream which my mom swears by (rubbed on your breasts and belly everyday), but i was never diligent enough for.
Yeah, but f&m really is pretty fucked up.
Really?
Really?
really? - not . That "napalm-squirrel solution" is actually contrary to my religious beliefs. But most humor - even reallly black humor - isn't. I understand that one never knows, on the net, what kind of creatures one is dealing with. So : I actually like squirrels (in their place). Then again, I've never had to fend off a rabid squirrel......
Really? You're obviously talking to different girls than me, the ones I know seem to be totally indifferent. Again, I think it must just be a cultural thing.
Really? I've always found characters (even if the caricature isn't intentional) are very rarely funny, especially when the artificiality is so blatant. The best-before date will be on us before we know it--if it isn't already--and then the only entertainment will be how long the fungus is allowed to incubate before someone finally throws it away. But that's just me.
Second, it's worth considering the fact that conventional photography is really very artificial and quite different from how the eye and mind "see". While I suppose it is in some sense the most realistic of the conventional representational arts; it's still such a long way from our experience of reality that it's probably best for a photographer to deeply understand how a camera "lies" rather than how it tells the truth.
really? It seems clear to me that if one, as an artist, does not feel compelled to use words only in their most literal sense, then why should one feel compelled to use light and film in the most literal sense?
Really? what are the hours? Do they have an affirmative action program for Irish Catholics?
Really? Or are the most "famous" bloggers the "tight-knit, mostly white, mostly affluent bunch"? This is was a poorly written article. The generalization may have been true six years ago, but it's no longer relevant.
really? 1010wins doesn't mention that they hit the city at all.
Really? I admit, I haven't actually tried any in quite some time, but looking at screenshots of the various ones out there, they seem to always be sorted first by feed, not by date. Didn't see anything like that mentioned in the "features" section of any of them, either. (Nothing like that in the screenshots, nothing like that under "features," what was I supposed to conclude?)
Really? I assumed nothing of the sort.
(Hey, what people do behind closed doors is their own damn business, as far as I'm concerned...unless it's really entertaining and/or weird, in which case I want pictures.)
Really? Because he looks a lot like you? It's weird he had the exact same first name as you?"
Really? Why? The bed is raised slightly, and I'm assuming what's holding it up is solid wood (or something...) Would it be possible to have that support material be strong enough not to bow/crack/break?
Really? That hasn't been my experience. Admittedly, here in the US I can find 99% of what I'm looking to buy online at US sites, but I haven't had any problems going outside the US. I once wanted a book that had been published in the UK, but was a month or two away from publication in the US and not available from any of the usual US sites. I ordered it from a UK bookstore with no more difficulty than I have ordering from a US site. For music, I often go to the Canadian mymusic.com, which tends to have better prices than the better-known online stores. I've bought stuff on eBay from outside the US with no problem.
I totally disagree scarabic re electric v gas. You can really control gas. I hate cooking on electric ranges, even those super cool flat ones.
really? A very, very mild simmer? Or does the word poaching imply putting something in a simmering broth, as opposed to simmering a liquid?
simmer is the kind of word that starts looking and sounding really weird after more than three appearances.
Really? Owch. I'm in the netherlands by the way.
Really? I haven't had that problem. I find that as long as it's LCD (rather than CRT) my eyes have no problem. I wouldn't mind a B&W screen as long as it was the same quality as my colour one.
really?
Really?
Really? As long as we are all having fun-and we are, btw.

Really? You got it all mixed up:
Really? Hmmm. Okay. Damn.
Really? And there was I thinking he'd forgiven you, a la Padre Matt. Instead, you actually ... snuck back in???
Really? What is it's purpose then: I thought it was supposed to be to answer matters of fact, more than of opinion.
Really? Typos included? *cries*
Really? I had no idea. Tell us more!
Really? Those poor people....having to listen in on inane chatter amongst such a (physically by numbers) limited bunch of people. The cabin fever must be getting to them. I can think of better things to waste my time on.
really? How about you let me read it first and THEN you can tell me how you feel.
really? What's the big secret dayvin? Let's have it. What country are we talking about here?
I'm betting that the reason you chose "maybe I live" is because you don't REALLY live in one those desperate countries. In fact, I'm going to have a hard time believing you at this point, when you finally have the balls to us where you live. You must be doing pretty well in your third-world hell to have daily internet access. I will be interested in dissecting your country's long and glorious history. I'm still putting my money on Atlantis.
Really? If so, then I think I should make a call-out everytime a guy on MeFi gets called a dick or a prick, or some other gender-specific term that possibly may offend. Then my guess is I'd get called an ultra-sensitive ninny (and quite rightly). That's pretty much what I'm calling those people who're (couldn't resist the pun) offended by "prostitute" in this thread.
Really? It sounds like rhetoric to me.
Really? I think it at least twice a day.
Really? It isn't that obvious to me. Can you explain?
really? c'mon people, you're more creative than that.
really? I didn't see those hot chicks over in the corner there," but like a 7th grade dance, no one's really not noticing.
Really? Got anything to back that up? My friends that do counseling and teach it are the ones that told me that pat, simplistic answer.
Really? Huh. OK, if you say so. So now what I am taking away from all this is that Kwantsar chooses to suck a guy's dick and to repeat the words of Ethereal_Bligh. OK.
really? i say what i think, apologise when i'm wrong, and try not to make the same mistake twice (or, at least, not too often). i don't see how reasonable people can object to that. and i'm not that bothered about the unreasonable people.
really? This is crazy. I'm imagining the Server #1 going insane under the new burden.
Really? cavalier, I thank you for this post, but I'm pretty sure my employer is going to hate you a lot.
really? my favorite is "How to rob the bank across the street", alternatively "fort knox" when I wanna be really creative. :)
Really? That's strange. I'm getting one right now.
Really? I would not have figured that out from this thread. No one seemed to care about the fate of the account holder. Just whether or not he or she got to be righteous about seeing some picture of a sorry looking shithole.
really?
Really? Hunh.
Really? I kinda snorfle when I see how seriously some folks take all this.
Really? Seems like Matt's a bit too hands-off for that kind of adoration, perhaps you could fine-tune that a bit and explain what you really mean. I certainly don't tune in to Matt's blog (I do seem to remember that he has one, somewhere, although I haven't checked in a while), or focus on any member specifically. Are you trying to work up to a clique-ish type insult? Just try "I think this place is too clique-ish". I would disagree with that too, but at least it would make sense.
really?
Really? I guess I've had that whole school thing figured wrong all those years. It's a wonder how I ended up in grad school without having you and all you wisdom around.
Really?
Really? What? Look, I was charmed despite myself by the original should-I-join-the-military Keyser, just like everybody else, but I think "contributed a lot" is going way too far. And if (as seems probable) he did in fact give, sell, assign, gift, transfer, or otherwise alienate his MeFi account, he's a fucking twerp who makes the baby Jesus cry and should be banninated till the end of time. If it was "just" posting goatse, then ban him till he graduates from college and/or OCS.
Really? Because to me, the self-ignorance, hypocrisy and arrogance seems to me to stem from the person who chooses to go slacker at an important interview.
Really? You have copies of my email?
Really? We're almost done de-dramafying this thread, and now you get angry?
really?
really? I've never heard that one before.
really? I've never heard that one before.
Really? No shit, I had no idea men feel that way. I'm stunned and shocked, I tell you. Stunned. Stunned and shocked. I've never heard such a thing. Never. Awkwardness? I've just never come across that. I'm so glad you let me know, as I apparently am as dumb as a god damned rock.
really? I mean, it's not any sort of scientifically valid survey, it's not directly applicable to the asker, and it doesn't point anyone to further resources to for studying it more in depth.
Really? Let's hear it for lesbunnies!
really? either I missed the SuicideBukkake pages (and if I did please disregard and I'm sorry) or something's wrong here, all I see is Goth young women showing a little skin. Calvin Klein ads are often more graphic than that.
Really? So even if we table the whole argument of humans as obligate carnivores for now, are you claiming that there was some sort of demure undergarments for early hominids?
Really? Well, guess I need a hobby, then.
Really?
Really? I think if everyone who was a regular felt a need to post often instead of when they came across something interesting, the front page would be unreadable, sort of like what the Dalai Lama said about the way the world would be if every single person drove a car.
Really? Iffy, that one. ANy lawyers in the house?
really? how interesting, pastor. but at least they're not a self-righteous, crushing bore, so there's still hope.

Really? Especially if the duplicates are way in the past? Well, if the majority of people really think so, at least let them try to be consistent in their criticisms.
really? just a couple of posts above yours:
While I agree that the "non-descriptive text, every word a link" posts are kinda silly, I don't think that the post which sparked this thread really qualifies.
It's not that hard to add an delete option, I just assumed people would be really careful on picking them, but I've almost hit the wrong one before so I understand. I'll add it to the todo list.
Really? When I added the feature, the vast majority wanted an obvious notification.
Really? When I added the feature, the vast majority wanted an obvious notification.
It seems to me that a person who is really interested in the topic will enter a thread regardless if it is checked as answered or not. People who are only mildly interested in the topic, but nevertheless potential contributers, are less likely to enter if they think the asker has already been satisfied. I like it marked inside the thread for cases where somebody wants to read the best answer quickly and can't be bothered with reading the entire thread.
Really?

Really? If I'm only interested in one particular poem, I would have never bought the book anyways. But, I've bought books of poetry after seeing a few poems online.

really?
Really? I'm not being snarky here, but I don't think I've ever read anything suggesting that Matt and/or jessamyn were "patting themselves on the back" for their moderation efforts. In fact, my guess is that they'd readily admit that they wish they had more time to weigh the pros and cons of every post, consider past precedents, balance the contributions of various users, formulate formal policies, etc., etc., but since they don't, they do the best they can on the fly. It's a pretty thankless job. If they make a "mistake" (if one can even make a "mistake" when editing one's own web site), big fucking whoop-de-doo. Post the same thing elsewhere -- the internet's a big place.
really? 2 t's?
really?
Really? He seems to be expressing his thoughts and beliefs in an honest manner, not baiting people for the sole purpose of baiting them. Is that a troll? Do people get callouts now when others disagree with their opinions? Or when others dislike their writing style? I vehemently disagree with maybe 75% of what's written on this site. Can I start calling out matteo and Y2karl because their opinons about religion or Iraq are amusing and childish to me? This post is really pretty stupid, and pretty contrary to what I thought Metafilter was all about.
Really? Is this encouraged by the Wikipedia folks? Seems like it would be an awful mess if everyone did this.
really? not a big deal. Go outside.

Really? Wow. Perils of rushing in, I guess.
really? I can make money off them ads there? Golly!" fake-stupidity business extremely irritating...
really?" or "Golly!" so I don't think you need to put those in quotes. As for exhibiting "fake-stupidity", I think you guys don't give yourself enough credit for knowing the etiquette around this stuff...do you think it's easy to know what the right thing and wrong thing to do is when you have never done it before?
So just please bear in mind that there was no ill-intent in what I did, I was just excited to be part of a new community (not just here on this site, but new community of blogging in general), and I didn't know any better. In fact, I am taking those "Adbrite" ads off of my site as we speak. (I think they look really stupid). As for the Google ones, they have actually provided me with some really interesting links, one of which I even posted on my site because it made sense (so those ones are going to stay).
Really? You mean like people did BEFORE THEY FUCKING INVENTED MICROWAVES YOU DIPSHIT?
Really?

Really? The only person I knew well who called it "Cali" was born in, raised in, and still lives in San Diego. So I thought it was a Californian name.
Really? So you're saying that we should waste Matt's time, energy, bandwidth and money on another layer of the MetaEmpire to provide a space that is full of easily locatable news items and the snarky agenda filled comments that follow them rather than just deleting the posts and letting people go to one of the million other sites like Fark, LGF, etc., ad infinitum... that provide precisely that. How dare I suggest that I was the one thinking of MetaFilter!
Really? from Bartleby.com, I see:

Really? There were two egregious ones yesterday (and that's not including the Japanese TV show one, which I found funny and don't consider a double post)
But really, it's like you're saying that two posts on science in one day constitute a double post.

Really? Personally, I'd dance a little jig if every single last page on *.metafilter.com was white with dark text. It hurts my eyes unless I make it black and white with Machete (I don't mean aesthetically speaking, it literally gives me sore eyes reading light text on a dark background.).
Really? Because Rothko vs. Ryvar is a veritable Battle of the Midgets. It's like the circus, only free.
Really? Because Rothko vs. Ryvar is a veritable Battle of the Midgets. It's like the circus, only free.
Keith M. Ellis, honey, you're a miserable hypocrite. Go in front of a mirror if you really need to look down on someone.
really? Well, okay then. Can you clear up that whole "water flowing downhill" thing? Thanks.
REALLY?
Really? Do you think he employed a team of economists to generate a demand curve?
really? he's shown us what a gay-hating thug he is already... we don't need to know much more about him -- if it squeals like a pig and roots in shit like a pig, well, guess what, it's a pig.
Really? Same browser? The javascript and submission scripts are identical, last I checked. I added some new javascript to the Add tag link that might screw up in Safari.
Really? What do you think that is then? Do you think I'm pro or anti dope/dios/fairness?
Really? What do you think that is then? Do you think I'm pro or anti dope/dios/fairness?
Really?
Really? Or are you just saying that?
Really? Huh. If they can do that, then why are their normal MeFi search results so ridiculously spotty?
Really? How do these people discover the chromosomal makeup of those they interact with on a daily basis? I would say that, for all but medical doctors treating a patient, apparently female = female.
Really? So Muslim is a race? "Muslims are silly"... is that racist name-calling too? I just want to learn Mefi's standard, that's all.
Really? So Muslim is a race? "Muslims are silly"... is that racist name-calling too? I just want to learn Mefi's standard, that's all.
Really? I'd prefer to keep guns out of their hands, thanks. But I know what you mean.
REALLY? The time that I spend here is so minimal that I can't imagine any situation where my name would have come up without my presence, let alone as part of some bizzaro Internet conspiracy, or plot. What an odd concept. How on Earth did he develop such a strange belief?
Some people really DO have too much time on their hands.
Really? On what basis? I didn't see a comment there that deserved to be flagged (at least, not offhand). More info about the case was just being posted as the thread was closed, but I can understand why it was closed.
Really?
Really? I don't know.
But for the record, fwiw, I sure never meant anything *that* heavy with my "If someone from the US is using Americans I'll respond using Americans too". I was also being kind of facetious. And I assumed no one was really being too serious about that either. Perhaps I was wrong. Sorry.
really?
really? Seems inconsistent. Was it because he asked permission first?
Really?
really?" the lady said excitedly.
really? With the handbag swinging? Way bad form. Yikes.
really? With the handbag swinging? Way bad form. Yikes.
Really? Because if so, you're going to have to call out the majority of the people who post here. It's a fact - only a small percentage of the things that you read on any site will actually be of interest to you.
Really? I don't think so.
really?
Really? I'm not reading it that way. I think the response is more like "I think it's a good enough idea that I'd do it, too", rather than an actual offer.
really? you sure about that? is it really nonsense?
Really? That seems really self-centered.
Really? Why?
Really? Like the fear of nuclear winter during the cold war, or of oil shortages during the energy shocks in the 70s?
really?
Really?
Really?
Look, some people get really irritable when the period comes around.
Really? I doubt it.
Really? I was under the impression that I was having real conversations with real people here. Maybe that explains why you're so abrasive lately.
really? look:
Really? Orgasms are why I have sexual relatioships. Must be a lot more little Delmois around than little Klangs.
really? I can't think of a single instance of the blink tag that was interesting, enlightening, or even vaguely useful.
Really? Wow. You don't pay very much attention to goings on around here, do you?
Really? What's wrong with Quicktime? I've never had any problems with it. Nobody uses it to load annoying sidebar ads or create irritating UI elements. Works great on PCs and Macs. What's not to love?
Really? It's not like nuns grow on trees, you know.
Really? Neither of those issues can wait a week?

Really? She's never done that for me.
Really? She's never done that for me.

Really? Well, I guess "a number," sure, but in my experience a large proportion of these assholes are proud of their Randroidity. Ayn Rand is, after all, the patron saint of "do what you want and screw everybody else."

really? is metafilter.org not used/official....if it is...than why would you have a subdomain setup for .com, but not the other?
Really? As an atheist myself, I'm not sure I perceive any sense in our short lives. How can anything be less sensible than no perception of meaning at all? What difference does it make to me, how I spend my time in life, when facing the abyss?
really? I think I'm reading too much into your statemtent. I thought the outrage in that thread, now deleted, was about whether the post belonged on askme or not. I'm not sure I'm following the real life thing.
Really? I thought they had style guides to help them (example 1, example 2, example 3, etc.). Are the editors at NYT not consistent in the application of said rules?
Really? Is this a limited time offer? Can I get more than one dios per household?
Really? It's not obvious that the language/culture barrier is an important part of the problems radioamy has been having? Sorry, but it seemed more than a bit ridiculous to question that out of some kneejerk PC instinct.
Really? I'm not—you're sure? Oh. Well, shit.
Really? I'd be the first to edit my own posts? I consider myself a paragon of responsibility, above the riffraff? This, sir, is news to me. How'd you figure this all out?
really?
Really? Is this more your neck of the woods?
really? I've always heard it used as any abusive use of alcohol, regardless of how long one's been at it. For instance, the reason you hear people say "Bob has a history of alcohol abuse," is because the phrase alcohol abuse doesn't necessarily imply a history.
Really? I'm not saying it's totally implausible for most values of Foo, but it'd probably be weird.
Really? If so, I must get the gossip via e-mail ... ;-)
Really? The question was essentially "Do I try to break up someone's marriage because I have a hard-on for this girl?"
Lots of really great stuff there lately Matt.
Really? It's just a bunch of links I find each day with little commentary. I'm phoning it in compared to what I used to have time for on my personal blog.
Really? It's just a bunch of links I find each day with little commentary.

Really? I think our lavishing attention and derision upon her will only reinforce her fan base, and possibly attract more people to her.
really? Have you seen his site? I guess the "power over others" thing is part of the non-joke jokiness or something?
Really? Where are these women you speak of? In your own fevered dream?
Really? I'd like to see, first the RFC which defines "straight-text" (an ambiguous term) as the only allowable content of the body text of an email and, second, proof that if the first exists there's never been a subsequent RFC which allows mark-up in the body of the email.
Really?
Really? I'm in Saskatchewan, and I've heard the term used every so often by locals. I hear it used occasionally on the radio too, mostly CKOM. It is unwiedly, though, so I usually avoid it.
Really? Isn't that the whole point of self-moderation and community? The whole messy, unpredictability of it?
Really? Let's rewind through your comment."Sock puppets can ask additional questions per week on AskMe.""Some people establish a reputation, and want to erase that reputation."By definition, those uses constitute "gaming the system" — which brings us back to the original presumption, that there is no valid reason to keep sockpuppets.
Really? I thought it was only manipulating the sub-pixels and so I expected it to not help or possibly even hurt on CRTs. I wonder why it is helping?
Really? Single-link newsfilter? Oh, Matt.
Really? I thought we were just meant to share amusing anecdotes.
really?
Really? I thought it was pretty generic.
really? while I admire his organizational acumen, I think asking 30 questions at once is really sort of pushing the limits of AskMe, though perhaps other folks disagree.
Really?
really?
really?????? I would love you FOREVER!
Really? It's a serious question.
Really? I thought I've read mathowie suggesting people do that very thing. Did I dream that up?
Really? I thought I've read mathowie suggesting people do that very thing. Did I dream that up?
Really? The first time you claimed that, I asked you to clarify and your reply was basically, "Uhh...whatever, dude."
Really? The first time you claimed that, I asked you to clarify..."
Really? I'm right with you on your motive for reading and watching stories. And I think you're right that surprise does, or at least can, deepen the pathos of a story. If I know that a sympathetic character is going to die in the end, I don't feel the same sense of shock and injustice when it happens. Furthermore, if I know about their death ahead of time, I don't invest as much emotional energy into that character throughout the story. In either case, I think I've missed out. I'm surprised that anyone would want to avoid those feelings.
Really? What in the world would people be talking about for that long?
really?
really?
Really? That's what you were able to come up with?)
Really? The original question was whether or not the OP has some obligation to turn in the confessor. Most of the comments here appear to be attempts at answers to that question. Note that I have made no comments in the original thread nor here attempting to answer this question, so I have no dog in this race.
Really?), and nothing that's trying for emotional resonance should ever include a sentence like "We fucked, but for some reason neither of us was really into it." Yawn.
REALLY?
Really? Are you talking to me? Because I never described myself that way, and I don't recall anybody else doing it, either. What I did say is that I don't have time to read everything available on the Web. You apparently do, which makes you the most qualified to start your own blog. Go for it.
Really? I mean, have you read EB's almost-sorta-retraction? It appears that any about-face, if there was one, occurred prior to 1995, doesn't it? But it could have happened hence. But, even better, it could be than no about-face ever occurred at all.
Really? All were sent out at the same time.
Really? Thanks for that info, I just spent all my cash on organic apples and dates at the Hollywood Farmer's Market. Must hit bank machine....
Really? What is the best of the web, then? The "wtf a one link post???" meme is worse for this place than bevets--how is your complaint any more relevant?
really? Are you sure you don't mean "implicitly?" Maybe I just don't know what the word "explicitly" means.
Really? Those forums are full of people who have spent a good while with both and picked a favourite? I kinda don't think so.
Really? We're going to use people who answer telephones for a living as arbiters of intelligence?
I'm sure they're nice and everything, but I don't really group "technical support" alongside rocket scientists and neurosurgeons. I'm not sure citing one profession's anecdotal experience is the best way to settle the argument; but if so, I'm pretty sure we can find someone better qualified than the call center employees.
Really? Whatcha got? Rotten has pretty much stopped adding to their gory picture collection over the last year...
Really? Whatcha got? Rotten has pretty much stopped adding to their gory picture collection over the last year...
really? c'mon, you don't care either.
I know that people really like big round numbers of things that are counted, but I don't know why.
Really?

Really?
Really?
Really?
Really?
Really? I always read it as y6•y6•y6, not y•6•y•6•y•6.
Really? Because upthread someone said it was an issue of consent. What if I was giving a cat acid in hopes it would be a good trip? Would that be cruel? Can it be proven the cat in the video was having a bad trip?
Really? Mine just required appending a "2" to to a file name.
Really? That's not obvious at all. Anyway, the only reason you get kicked in the shins is because we're all bent over kissing ColdChef's tater hole. Hard to kick someone in the nuts from that position.
Really? Because I did a search. And I kinda figured it was ok.
Really? It's pretty simple, actually. The more questions there are, the less face time your average question sees on the front page. Which means less people seeing your question, which means less people potentially answering your question. Thus, "too many questions".
really? A couple of questions that could've been asked aren't and if nothing changes, they flip the switch back.
really?
really?), and, um, yeah, I lost my (normally) steely restraint.
Really?
really?
Really? I had no idea. Never tried using it before.
Makes sense though, stacking <small> tags is pretty inoffensive, whereas stacking <big> could be really easily abused.
I just read the original question again, which mentions his neighbours being Asian five times. I don't think anyone is ever going to convince me that he was really asking "is there some cultural difference which I should be aware of in the way I approach this problem?".
Maybe he's so ignorant of the breadth and scope of what "Asian" could mean, he really thinks that all Asian people are so alike that they can be treated as a group (let's consider "the influence of Confucianism" on Catholics from Manila, or Muslims from Xinjiang). If so he's just very ignorant.
really? I see the post as a coded invitation for people to sympathise with him and to chatfilter about how Asian people can be such assholes, can't they? Which, for all stavros's intellectual pretentions, is what a few people gave him.
really? I see the post as a coded invitation for people to sympathise with him and to chatfilter about how Asian people can be such assholes, can't they?
Really? I'm not sure I even know how to respond to that. Pretty sad that just asking a question I want to know more about makes me a kind of racist
Really? Wow. Having moderated his behaviour just this far, he's enraged at the idea that it might not be far enough. Then he makes an "asian people talk funny" joke. I think he's got some way to go, obviously.
Really? Then why do you follow your suggestion that "[p]eople who craft posts, instead of posting whatever they come across organically, are likely Trying to Make a Point," by arguing that such a "post exists to lecture at us." You are obviously referring, however obliquely, to posts that you think support a preconceived agenda. However, your argument simply doesn't apply to all posts that are "crafted."
Really? You can't see the difference between those two? I initially thought the latter was HypotheticalFilter also, but after reading the entire question concluded it was valid -just poorly phrased. The first link was just silly ChatFilter with arbitrary "rules" and complete with "who's your money on?"
question: I really need to know the answer to at least two questions a week, though.
really? I mean, how does that even work? Do you have some deadline for knowledge where, if you haven't learned 16 new esoteric things in 2 months you'll die? this doesn't make any sense at all! read a book!
Really? Or does that only apply when people disagree with me? How does this work?
Really? I'm shocked to hear this, as just about everybody I knew grewing up was cut. It would be somewhat of an oddity to encounter a non-circumsized male among folks in my age and social class (middle-class suburban folks, mid to late 20's) - the only people I know who are uncircumsized are hardcore catholics. That's in suburban Toronto, perhaps mileage varies across the country.
really? I bet you're actually wearing all black stuff.
really? I'd love to hear about that.
Really? It seems like we still get a steady stream of questions that us old timers know are fresh meat to the trolls (relationship questions, usually). I can't decide if this means that most people don't read Metatalk and don't realize what a circus it is, or most people don't give a fuck what bad things strangers on the internet think about them. Either way, it's probably for the best.
ubu writes "languagehat, maybe i don't feel like answering your stupidass questions. doctor's excuse? i'll send you the goddamned death certificate, you smug shit. was all this really worth a 28 post thread? maybe all you haters can get off your ergo office chairs and go do something with your day, rather than sit around and post this crap."
Really? I understand that he's grieving, but it is his choice as to how to express that, and he chose to get pretty huffy with someone who was simply suggesting that had he answered some of the in-thread questions he might have had a better time of it. Then, to add insult to injury, he came back into this thread and indicated that you did a good job of re-wording his question so that it worked better.
Really? I understand that he's grieving, but...
Really? Oohhhhh. Oh. I guess, I, I...look, it wasn't so bad, there are some less hairy spots. Some. Less hairy. And, and, and, it was a character-building experience!
Really? Every time I look at Jeff Smith's work on Bone I'm reminded of Kelly.
Really? How pervy? Forwarding-to-Matt pervy?
Really?
Really? Perhaps if your weren't so disingenuous. The lack of posting history combined with the specific content of that post provides a pretty good predictor, and to deny that takes a willful ignorance of context and text. But hey, you're the one who wants to pretend that everything proceeds from axiomatic truths.
...why is that wrong? Is MeFi really so conservative?
Really? That's what you wanted to share with everyone today?
Really? That's what you wanted to share with everyone today?".
Really? That's what you wanted to share with everyone today?'"
But again, the point of the deleted FPP was quite obviously "Hey everybody, I found this really goofy FURRY porno on the Web! It's Gay and/or/but it's really silly! Let's all have a chuckle!" It's strange how, er, perverted that turned out.
Really? Who did?
Really?).
Really? Huh, I guess they did implement it into IE7 (I heard it might be in Vista).
Really?
Really?
Really? Okay -- maybe Specs? Or is Tosca's still around?
Really?"
Really? You need to go to the interwebs for the answer to that one?
really? i had no idea. no wonder it tanked.
Really? I have no idea how MeFi is structured, but somehow I doubt this.
really?
Really? Christ, I . . . I need to rethink everything.
really?)
really? Out here in the tubes, anything is possible if you want it to be. Anything.
really? I don't understand chatfilter number seven thousand and twelve? TK Christ doesn't know how to go all confessional in his own stupid thread, he has to start a new one (which ironically is so longwinded it bumps the live one off the front page)? Another "this deletion explanation made me laugh" thread turns into a Dios dustup? A double post of a time zone issue? Really, this doth affront you? TOM CRUISE AGAIN?! A bitch thread about somebody else's deleted AskMe? And a question that got answered in the first comment and smelled like sneaky self promotion anyway. My only objection is that they don't get deleted instead of just closed. And it is clear that all three admins were involved in these deletions. Are you teasing, caddis?
really? Mat manages metafilter the entire day? I didn't realize that. Does Jessamyn do that too?
Really? The only one? Oh...
really?
Really?
Really? So if I said something like "Christians" -- or whoever -- "are fools who fear the unknown so much that they purposely delude themselves" and I believed it, I would not be trolling? No, I don't agree. A troll is someone who says something purely to to get a rise out of you, but we don't need to be privy to their inner feelings to know them when we see them.
Really?

Really? Because saying that something is laughably dumb seems a poor way of plugging said thing.
I really think this brilliant post
Really?
Really? I found it to be the opposite: it's funny because of the contrast between the Victorian effect on society and the readers' non-Victorian comfortability with sex.
really? Isn't that was this is for?
Ok, fair enough that others got a kick out of it. Just thought it was a bit odd next to all the really cool shit that gets featured on the side blog (celebrity/expert posts to threads, important milestones/events, etc.) ordinarily.
really? Isn't that was this is for?
Really? I hope this isn't the same one who sounded so grating that I'd almost offer to pay him to stop playing. I'm not saying that to be cool & snarky -- it was seriously painful to listen to. It could be I'm completely uneducated (or ineducable) about Chinese music.
really?
really?
That's one of those questions I would ask if AskMe didn't have the limit— ARe there really any girls who are considering leaving their man due to small volume of ejaculate? Even better are the ones that promise to improve distance, which always makes me imagine a shooting gallery, with the little targets going ding ding ding.
Really? I bow to your superior teabagging knowledge, but I always thought that being teabagged referred to the recipient, in sort of a teabagger/teabaggee dichotomy.
really??" and him saying "yes!" I just dropped it. I still don't know if I believe him.
Really? What's it like?
really? Go on, venture off the nerdcore for five minutes and talk to some everyday people. Nobody has heard of Flickr.
Really? Do most advice columnists do that?
Really? Do most advice columnists do that? That makes me gain a lot of respect for him.
Really? I had no idea. That's amazing! I'm going to have to look into this whole “html” thing myself.
Really? Because as far as I know, there's no valid reason for there to be CSS in JavaScript. Maybe to access the DOM, perhaps, but I've never anyone attempt it in a stylesheet, especially when it only apparently works in older browsers and even then sketchily.
really?
Really? because from where I sit it seems like a tacit endorsement of the position shooting not being a gun control issue, and that anyone who argues that it is is being impolite and should be hurried off to the grey, where no-one looks.

Really? Not a community at all?
Really? Which ones did you read? I couldn't find anything remotely amusing.
really? Nobody out here but me and the crickets. Ah, I see on the agenda is converting more people to wicca and making their kids gay. Good show my chirping comrades!
really? I guess result #2 just wasn't good enough for ya?
Really?
really?
Really? Is this a meetup picture?
Really? And this would make people think highly of the movie how, exactly?
Really? I've never seen that happen. I think you are confused. Maybe if someone were truly egregious about it, they'd get banned. But no one is that thorough, nor do they either want or need to be that thorough. You can sufficiently cultivate your obsession with another member by hitting only one out of every five of their comments. That's why it's ambiguous and why people don't get banned for it.
Really? Flamewars or disagreements, when done creatively, and not taken too far (see above), can be entertaining. But flameouts are banal. You all look like a bunch of fucktards, the kind who would gather in a crowd and yell "jump" to someone standing on a ledge. Too cowardly to enter the battle of wits, but hungry for someone's blood.
really?
Really? Because it kinda sounds like you're just using the question as a chance to judge and HURF DURF HURF DURF. Are you certain your answer actually answers the question that is posted?"
Really?
Really? Oh, that will make it much easier for me because 85% of the books I buy I've bought from Amazon. Along with much other stuff.
really? I need to know in case I was served food from it? I think I am feeling ill already.
really?"
Really? I'd say that depends upon the content. And if the content is relevant, then it does help people answer the question.
really?
really? That was favorited? I mean it was a throw away joke. Even I wouldn't have given it a second thought.
really? That was favorited? I mean it was a throw away joke. Even I wouldn't have given it a second thought.
Really? I totally don't remember that, but my home base is the My Comments page almost exclusively, and I understand that other people use the site in different ways.
The problem with an undifferentiated streaming chrono list is one that bothered me about the My Comments view that was demo'd in the previous thread about this, too. I really didn't like that one bit. I kind of thought that this more complex layout solved the problems with that, but I guess not, for some people.
Really? I thought a honky-tonk nigger.
Really? We hadn't noticed.
Really? Why does lots of included detail mean you really need an expert, and not the AskMe answerers, in the case of relationship questions and not, for example, in the case of computer questions?
Really? I flagged the hell out of it about three hours ago. Flagged it so hard something something.
really? Seriously?
really?
Really?
Really? That's cool.
Really? Can I also post a question asking if this dress makes me look fat? Or one asking if everyone else was really pumped about last night's yankee game?
Really?

Really? A nonsensical one is more of a Snuh? It's basically a Snuh?-Huh?-Oh! continuum.
really? I can breathe booze? Are the effects shorter term at all, meaning I would have to nurse it constantly, ie through a partymask? Would the caloric value be at all diminished?
Really? "Deep, real harm"? I mean ... really?
Really??
I don't know exactly what languagehat thinks, but I think it's less about matteo fighting the good fight and more about (at least on metafilter,) about matteo bragging that he is the only truly just man and taking every chance to remind us that we're a bunch of hypocrites and rascals who aren't dedicated to social justice like he really is.
Really? (and i believe there definitely were more instances than just this one.)

really?) who went through a similar trial of doubt/temptation that lead to their "finding their voices" you talked about the origin of the Jesus Myth.
This is an honest invitation to enlighten me. Really. I think you're on to something. Post it here, post it in AskMe, I don't really care. I'm the one giving you the benefit of the doubt, prove to me that you're right.

Really?? Post about it because you think it's going to be deleted? Why?
If you must feel the need to post about a post, isn't the correct place MetaTalk? Not that I'm really encouraging it, but if you feel the need, there's an appropriate place.
Really? It was shit before he even hit 'post'
REALLY? You haven't spent much time here, then. I see things on this site ten times a day that annoy me more than having to delete a few emails.

really? Just another Simpsons Movie marketing post?" And then I took a breath and thought, "well, but it's the Kwik-E-Mart thing, that's pretty funny even if it is crass advertising, and—wait, wasn't that last post like a week ago? BALEETED".
Really? I'm in delicate negotiations to turn it into a sitcom.
Really? I mean, you know the guideline against askme noise and why it's there. People have been discussing whether the punishment fit methylviolet's crime, but whether methylviolet did anything wrong wasn't ever really under debate. It almost feels like during a discussion of the jail time typically sentenced for theft you piped up and went "yeah, and why is theft illegal anyway?" out of nowhere. it's kind of like "weeeeell, it is. right now we're talking about how to punish it, not whether it should be punished."
Really? Is it to discuss business? Is it purely social? If the latter, can he join them? Etc.
Really? Are you sure of this, or is your familiarity with astrology limited to astrology columns in the local newspaper?
Really? LOL!). I'm not even talking about learning disabilities or the disadvantaged, etc. I'm simply saying that from pure statistics, a quarter of the population - roughly one and a half billion people - are going to make Paris Hilton look like Alfred E. Newton. (I know, it's only juxtaposition, but I like it.) And sure, we could argue all day about whether the sensibly-challenged are owed equal due respect, but if Forrest Gump had it right, and "stupid is as stupid does," then I'd say my statistics are probably way understating the threat.
really?"
Really, there's been a sort of minor explosion of political/agenda-y stuff brewing; we're not really hurting for excuses to yammer about it.

Really? I agree 110% with justgary. My Auntie always says better to be an asshole than just an ass because at least an asshole has a purpose.
Really?
Really? My assumption is that a person who would date a junkie would be completely oblivious to a lot of things.
Exactly. y2karl consistently posts thoughtful, meaty pieces that would enhance the understanding of anyone who bothered to read them. But the complainers not only don't want to bother to read them, they don't even want to have to glance at them as they zoom past to the next really excellent post about what Google has been up to lately or an awesome viral video. This post is just an excuse for the y2karl-haters to trot out their usual lies and vitriol.
really?), but I worship jessamyn and appreciate all the work she does, and she is after all leaving the posts there, so I won't hassle her.
Really? I asked my pal the detox counsellor (full disclosure— he was a front-line detox counsellor for, what, four years, but now writes policy for the detox he works at), and I thought it was pretty good advice, on the whole.
really? you don't say?"...You might not believe me, but I have no desire to see you banned from this site"... WHY THE FUCK NOT!?
Really?
I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. Recently I've been having dreams where I'm smoking a cigarette and REALLY enjoying it. It makes me feel very relaxed (which is what they supposedly do right?). When I wake up I have what feels to be the taste of cigarettes in my mouth, and an intense craving to smoke one.
Really? What about equating BDSM with spousal abuse was clear and gracious?
Really? Because the number of pretty damn great news/polifilter posts is very small compared to the number that survive. It's, like, 30% more scrutiny rather than 70% more scrutiny, from a base of about 5-10% scrutiny ("Is this double/self-link?").
Really? You don't know what you're missing.
Really? I might have to break down and actually make an account there....
Really?
Really? I'm not seeing it at all.
Really? The old and new testaments both describe possession by evil spirits or the devil. Jesus was visited by the devil, which suggests the devil is alive and walking around. Jesus was conceived when his mother had a close encounter visitation by an alien angel.

Really? Plain tonic with a squeeze of lime is a lovely refresher on a hot summer day (and is acceptable in the office, even if two co-workers insisted on tasting it before they'd believe I hadn't put any gin in it).
I'm not really in the mood for pie, though. ikkyu2, please make mine a Hendricks martini with three pearl onions.
Really? Plain tonic with a squeeze of lime is a lovely refresher on a hot summer day (and is acceptable in the office, even if two co-workers insisted on tasting it before they'd believe I hadn't put any gin in it)."
Really?" I like mineral water with lemon, but the quinine's just not my thing without the gin to balance it.
Really? It's offensive for a straight person to ask for help to not be confused for a gay person?
Really? That seems a little fast. Right now I'm running intervals so I'm alternating between brisk walking and periods of running to build up strength (plus with warmup and cooldown at the end). At the end of the workout, it currently averages out to about eight minutes a kilometer. So I wouldn't be able to register that workout at all for the challenge, if I'm understanding you correctly. Can we slow down the pace a bit? Eight or even nine minutes a kilometer would be enough to weed out the just-walkers while still allowing the slower runners among us (myself included) to participate...
Really?
Really? I typed it in that way in google to check and it didn't yell at me. I am shamed.
Really? Is this National Misuse Well-Understood Words Day?
The thing with mix cd questions is that they run a gamut from totally reasonable to really pushing it, as far as the spirit of askme goes.
Really? The asker doesn't know what they want, nobody can tell what they're going to get, probably no future reader would get much from the thread, and it's all pretty ridiculous.
really? 3 times? In one comment??? [/talking to penis]. Sorry guys, I have to go take care of this thing in the other room, back soon.
Really? It's easier to figure out someone's onsite personality- just go back and read everything they've ever said. Or come into IRC and hear about who hates who. Or get cortex drunk and he'll give you all the gossip himself.
Really? Uninsured people choose to spend their savings on a vacation rather than health insurance, and "healthcare in the states" is "fucked up"?
really? If it isn't my money, should I really give a damn how it's spent? Compared to someone living in the third world, pretty much all of MeFi lives extravagantly, so it's ultimately kind of petty, no matter matter how much of a rush of pseudo-righteous indignation we might get.
really? impeccable technique will be reflected in the grand opening of livenudequonsar.com.

Really?" I say this until the circle closes up and no one will listen to me anymore. Then I go to everyone else at the party and say, "Can you believe they're talking about that? Can we make them stop? Because it's a really stupid topic, and I really don't care about it, and I don't think they should talk about it, because it's totally bringing down the general intellect of this party". I continue to say such things until I am thrown out of the party, at which point I go home, put on new clothes, change my hair, and sneak back in.
Really?
Really? Fair enough. I just found the entire first half of the web for sure.
Really? Do you think that post went any intellectually deeper than "people who believe in God are delusional?" Give me a break.
really? Well fuck me sideways, I thought giving was all about how much you spent out of obligation. Twat.
Really? Do you think that post went any intellectually deeper than "people who believe in God are delusional?
Really? And who decides who those users are? And farewell threads have always been banned, this is nothing new. It's just that no one's posted one in a while.
Really? Why are ponies hard to code anyway?
Really? I've seen a lot of schtick, which isn't funny, what look like some legitimate chemical imbalances (but we can call them madness, too), zero prophecy, some lost little boy, some dumbass, some harmlessness and also some basic thread shitting and antagonism, and zero funny. so what we're left with is... schtick, madman, lost little boy, dumbass. I wouldn't want to describe him that way, but I'd sooner do that than say he was funny or a prophet.
really?! because no one ever spells my name right, EVER. it's even in my word cloud, spelled properly and everything, and I rarely say my own name. I don't correct people on the spelling or anything.

really?
A lot of the acronymizing and geekspeak is just another way of making "one of us?" distinctions not really consciously posturing but just "Oh if you read MeFi you probably also know about the LOLCATS and AYBABTU and XKCD."
Really? I've always thought the opposite: that there's more pushback here at Metafilter (as well there should be IMHO YMMV LOLWTF) for CRAPP (Crassly Robotic Acronym Posting) than in may other webby places, in part because there's a kinda baked-in respect for words and wordplay, and ritual newb-taunting aside, a tendency to welcome with open arms new people with something to say and an interesting way to say it.
REALLY?
Really?
I get the point you're making, but "true to form" is not (IMO) really editorializing on the same level. Just my opinion, of course.
Really?
Really?
Really? I've known some fundy Protestants and their churches did not condemn masturbation or non-procreative sex. I thought the old stereotype was that Catholics aren't supposed to have non-procreative sex but do anyway, while Protestants are allowed but have no desire to.
Really? How do you know for sure, in the absence of perfect knowledge about their state of mind? This is precisely the mistake you accuse others of making with reference to Aldridge. My point, on the other hand, is that they are simply willing to accept a lower standard of proof than you are.
Really? People don't like a feature and you're going to get all condescending on them?
really?
Really? There wasn't a single question mark in the thread title here, apart from in "Write your congressperson?". The post is entirely THIS IS WRONG not IS THIS WRONG?

Really? I didn't mean to insinuate anything more sinister than is widely understood.
It's only recently come to my attention that Hillary's campaign has been getting so much funding from the defense industry (that is, relative to other Dem candidates) and when I started exploring the topic, I found some articles that explored the subject from a variety of angles and (I thought) filled out the picture more completely. Yes, arguably there's some implicit editorial slant in the presentation of the material, but to me it's really less editorializing than attempting to synthesize information.
And maybe I was off-base about the "why are some people's complaints given more weight than others thing. I really don't mean any offense to you, Jessamyn. I just want to understand what the real underlying guideline is. It seems like I've seen a certain degree of editorial slant held up as fair play in some cases. In others, not so much.
Really? There are? Can I get a list? Because when DateMe starts up, I'm hitting them up first!
You really think there are that many people here who don't have a D20?
Really?
Really? I was there just a couple weeks ago, and (aside from a random arson on the brown line) everything was fine, even the buses. I mean, it doesn't really matter to me, but the "we needz states money" ads seemed convincing, and I (being from the midwest) understand what construction looks like (slow zones on the Blue).
Really? Did you notice if the moving sidewalk said "Walk on the left/Stand on the right"? Because this one did. Thus, were you standing there when I was hustling (due to delayed planes), I would have said, "Fuck you. Walk on the left."
Really?
Really? That must be an amazing place to live"
Really? Thanks for the tip.
What does macho mean, really, anyway? To me it says the man sees himself as superior because of his maleness.
Really? Pride in being male? Which also often translates to, "pride at being male instead of female, which is inferior," does it not? Definitely not always, but there's a pretty fine line there.
Really? I've always thought it was more of a tagline.
really? an actual singing saw or a computer imitation?
I really think if we added the titles to the Front page, put the title field first up on the question form, the problems would basically go away.
Really? The idiotic redundancy on the front page that would result from questions like this wouldn't bug you? I mean, the fraction of total questions that do that is a much bigger percentage than 1-3%, I'm sure.
Really?
Really?
Really? I was thinking more like this.
jennydiski: I really can't imagine why anyone would suggest that, the discussion on the experience women have of street harassment having been closed (whatever the quality of the original post), Metafilter is a boyzone.
Really? That's what you wanted to share with us?" as the deletion reason. It was pretty craptacular. But, supposing that all of metafilter's homos had commented about their experiences with porn in that thread, should it have been spared? Would deleting it have been some sort of evidence of the mod's (I believe it was jessamyn) latent anti-porn and/or anti-gay nature?
Really?").
Really?
Really? I don't see the context. But I didn't read all these threads, either. Somewhere in all this have there been people arguing that women shouldn't be disturbed by this and they are overreacting?
Really?
really? She seems to be going far, far out of her way to make it as pro-guy as possible. I was going to go through it and pull out the quotes that especially indicated that, but I wonder if there'd be any point? It's more about an overall message than sentences taken out of context.
I honestly want to know, that really came off as some insane rant to you? It made no sense? Spoke to nothing in your experience?
Really?
Really?
Really?
Really? Oulipofilter?! Awesome!
Really? I'm out of line? konolia, I appreciate your telling us about your personal communication with him. Really, I do - it helps add some backstory. But you're clearly privy to a lot more than I am because of your personal relationship with him. I don't know quonsar - I only know his internet persona, which in my entire short time here has been nothing but mean-spirited.
Really? I don't see that at all, but then I can't see what is never posted. I'll accept, from perusing The Thread That Cried Love At The Heart Of The World, that women MeFites feel that way, and I don't think it's unreasonable to ask a bunch of jackasses like myself to hew to a teensy higher standard of social discourse.
Really?
Really? You wanna stand on Mississippi's state flag? Fuck that, it's racist and it should have been voted down. Sorry that some good Southerners get tarred in there along with the retards, but when they start being trotted out as some poor martyr class to deflect from sexism, I got no problem calling that out.
Really? You wanna stand on Mississippi's state flag?"
Really? Cos when we last spoke about this, you effectively said "we don't have time to evaluate everything case-by-case; lots of flags just clutter up the flagging queue, and we'd have to go clear them out".
Really? You think EB is reading a 400 comment about quonsar?
Really? We usually just get drunk and obnoxious in NYC.
Really? As in ones that weren't deleted within a couple of hours of being posted?
Really? I've always heard "moiduhrize", but I bow to your greater wisdom.
Really? I've always heard "moiduhrize"
Really? I'll have to give another listen—it's been years since I actually watched a cartoon that contained the phrase, so although that's how I hear it in my head I may be misremembering (although Google tells me a lot of people think of it the way I do).
really?) can get people writing nasty letters about it.
really? You can question his sincerity re: wanting to fly from Texas to California at all, you can try to explain that hang-gliding probably isn't gonna do the trick, whatever, but you can't make him take a plane to California, which is the only way he'll ever fly there. Other than "good luck," I don't see a reply anyone can make to this.
really? The exact same behavior towards all people is prejudiced? Maybe it's shallow and stupid, but sexist?
Really? Seemed more like a geek-crush thing to me, than a frat-boy thing.

really? The first time I ever figured out their songs were largely composed of other peoples songs is when there was a post here about it. Were they credited on the cd sleaves? I guess I never really looked.
Really? A music site I frequent has this, although I think you can only get to it from their discussion boards (look down towards the lower right hand side) and not the front page. Are they lying?
Really? Which people make you think that? Because I look at the majority of the users and think either "Drunk" or "Needs to be on drugs a whole lot".
Really? I think we had fun. Sorry we missed so many of you, but there will be more meetups. And more oysters.

Really? In this day and age? Seems kind of weird that you would be accusing other people of failing at capitalism.

Really? I don't see it. Last time I googled Givewell, this thread was #3, but now it doesn't show up at all. Can someone with more google knowledge than I have please explain how this happens?

Really? I'm not attacking you cortex. But seriously. People are people? It's also a Depeche Mode song.
Really? [I can't stop laughing].

I'm really saddened by her post regarding the assault. But, as she stated, she didn't want to lie about it. On the other hand, the image of The Shins as gangsta rappers have given me my best laugh so far today.
really? this ain't Lineage clans killing each other in the streets over something that happened in the game, you know? This is people reacting to unethical behavior. how does ANYONE take away from this situation that the problem here is metafilter? it blows my mind.

Is that really your charitable intepretation of what I said? I, personally, look at the flag queue to see what's bothering people. My suspicion is that we have people here who may be Christian who react to and dislike the LOLXIAN posts. We also have other memebers who may not be Christian who react to them and dislike/flag them. With Scientology posts, I think there are few people who say "hey I'm personally offended by that!" (please insert "first they came for the _______ and I said nothing because....") and so those sorts of posts don't show up in the flag queue as readily.

We don't really have a mechanic
Really? I know a good one just a few minutes' drive from here. 'Course, you'll have to move to Hadley, but it's a damn fine little burg.
Really? Are we going here, again?
Really? Lots of Jews feel that way, and frankly it's not an unreasonable inference from the last couple thousand years' worth of history. Not "anti-Semitism is natural and right," but "anti-Semitism is inescapable." It's an easy statement to disagree with, but "totally mysterious"? I find that reaction totally mysterious.

Really? Well, I'd favorite him even if he weren't my RL friend because he's a fucking genius and a truly humbling talent as a writer. In fact, we first started hanging out together based on our commonality in tastes that we discovered through MeFi.
really? there are people being called names in this very thread, and the comments stand.
Really? That's a pretty strong claim. You really believe that if the mods never read MeTa, the policies here would still be exactly the same?
Really? That's pretty funny.
Really? That's pretty funny.
Really? I thought it was about the inappropriate words of some posters (not to imply jon's words were inappropriate).
really? Sorry for my assumption then. I don't have any background in history or theory of education, so I didn't know.
Really?
Really? You kill children by irradiating them?
Really? I find it pretty easy to see who the specialists are in these threads. I think this is the kind of thing metafilter does brilliantly because you get to see all the different types of arguments at once . There is something about seeing hyperbole and calm reason side by side that is comforting to me. It's like when Indiana Jones pulls out his pistol after all the sword waving.
really? 'Cause you're going to have a shit-fit when you find out that I often send my five year old to get the bullets out of my loaded gun-er... I mean... get the mail.
Really? Because my grandfather always says that if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump it's ass a'hoppin'.
really? Somebody needs to put me on that mailing list. Asian seems so vague; it lumps me in with all manner of filthy riff raff who don't even have epicanthic folds etc.
Really? I'll be damned. I remember reading somewhere (somewhere non-scholarly, I'm sure) that it originally wasn't an insult. I guess every day's a school day after all.

Really? There was no racism before the enlightenment period?
Really? Because I just read through your first five or so responses in that thread, and you didn't mention that once. Bit of an ex post facto on the "Yeah, also, this came from my friend who's named J'Onn J'onez and he can read minds and he totally told me that the asker was fucked." If yer friend's such a regulations genius, why don't you ask them for the text of the regulations that govern this? I mean, assuming this isn't just a girlfriend-I-met-at-camp-you-don't-know-her.
Really? No dog racing in Ca? That's kind of nice—dog racing's always, like, the lowest form of gambling readily available.
Really? No dog racing in Ca?

There are lots of trivial mail systems that have those things. Hell, when I sent an ecard – a freaking ecard – yesterday, it had such a box. Lots of 'send this article to a friend' systems do, too. It's pretty common/standard. If you have an email account, it's not really hard to figure out the concept. It's just a nice way of keeping track of everything you send.
I don't really get that much MeFi mail so this whole discussion has minimal personal impact, but I just thought that it's really odd that people think of auto-CCing as being much more of a complex addon than auto-forwarding. It seems like a pretty simple thing to me.
Really? So what?

I really really REALLY hate "punk rock" Lauren. Haaate. HAAAATE.
Really? I find her journey from observing the horrible shit women are expected to do for fashion, through letting them do it to her, and finally to her doing it to herself, incredibly captivating. Plus, she's inept, and that's punk rock.
Really? It's that interesting I guess.
Really? What's so funny about it?" "Well, like, there are just these funny parts where he starts writing and then it looks like one thing, but once you get it, you realize that it's hysterical." Really? Does it have a halo?" You stop and think about it for a minute, and then you realize he's talking about shit. Holy shit. Everything you said after that went in one ear and out the other, and it is SO not the right time.

I'm for free speech and against the Fairness Doctrine, so good for him, but I do tend to think he has more leverage than any one man should. Again, I'd love to be shown to be wrong.
Really?
Really.
really? Like for real this upsets you?
I don't have any feeling about Paris Paramus because I wasn't paying attention last time, but comments like this -- do you really find this offensive enough to even take note of? I don't even find it controversial enough to be considered flamebait. It's just an opinion you can disagree with. And you're not even obliged to argue it.
really? Like for real this upsets you?
No, actually, not at all. What I find most objectionable about the comments I linked to are this: shit in thread and run. The Hillary quote wasn't even really a full shitbomb (see: "I feel sorry for atheists."), but it was yet another example of shit-and-run.
For the record, I think anybody who gets banned and then semi-sheepishly comes back under a new username, but then once outed he pretends that he's really the old poster's roommate or something -- is probably up to no good.
Really? It just strikes me as being a little ..... I dunno, not-quite-right-in-the-head.

Really? After using the box, all you have to do is pick it up and put it back in the shelf or cupboard. I could totally do that at least fourteen times in, I dunno, like, an hour. Maybe your shelves or cupboards are too high. Maybe you should check into an assisted living facility. I mean, dang.
Really? Where is it?
Really? It's a very small point of etiquette which makes no difference either way except that one of the ways happens to annoy you.
Really? It's got a professional white background for me.
Really? What does green food turn your poop. When I was a kid, I had a Shamrock Shake and it turned my poop green. Another time I bought on eand I slipped on some sand in the parking lot and spilled half my shake. Then the next year, my mom hit a bump as I was drinking one and it spewed all over the car. Luck o' the Irish, my ass.

Really? You flagged it? Wow. I can certainly understand its not being everyone's cup of tea, but I can't really understand being that hostile to it unless you spend much of your time flagging the 98% of MeFi posts that don't live up to the Highest Possible Standards.
Really? You flagged it?"
Really? You flagged it?

Really? So we can draw up a list of MeFites who have not posted in this thread and title it "Endorsers of MetaTalk Post 16429"?
Really? You don't know that there's a history of vaginas being associated with oppression, violence and slavery? There is. A long one.
Really?

Really? You realize it's not Web 2.0, right?
Really? It's a kind of masculine sounding name, all Viking warrior and shit.
Really? That's outrageous. I encourage everyone everywhere to go out and break this law with impunity. If I can represent myself in court LEGALLY, why the hell can't I broker a real estate transaction without some smarmy glad-hander in a gold polyester jacket stepping in and taking their cut? Realtors have more say over their market than LAWYERS do? How is that even possible? What the fuck have we become?
Really? Colour me knowledged! It thought it was the opposite! Anyway, I'm off to watch "Hrafninn flgur" and expand my brain! :)
Really? Are you ok? Everything cool?
Really? That shit is booorrrrrrrrrinnnnng! Really, really boring. I have about 3 days of total bliss and then the ennui sets in. I think I'm really not cut out for regular tv watching, which makes me incapable of making value judgments about those who are, since it's most likely a birth defect cause - hey - I'm an American dammit!
Really? That's funny. I had assumed (because I'm a big comics nerd) that you named yourself after Steve Ditko's crazy Randian, Objectivist, vigilante hero Mister A.
Really?"
That said, I really would have preferred to lose to CStross.
Really? Caroline as VP or just the veepstakes thing in general? Cause there are like 80 jillion places to talk about that. And it's been a boring conversation everywhere I've seen it so far.

Really? Worse than Coulter?
Depends. Evidence points to Coulter being a huge ol' hypocrite, while Malkin seems to genuinely believe her bullshit. So you really have to pick whether faking trashy rightwing assholishness for the cash and the fame or totally meaning every crazy word they say is worse.
Really? IIRC this page had an additional section under "WorldWide Telescope minimum system requirements " that was something like "for MAC", which listed the minimum system requirements for running it under a mac with bootcamp, and which would have been something like this.
Metroid Baby: (1) I really like this book/song/recipe and here are the reasons why; please recommend others that are similar.

Really? Your question was about how to have a relationship with a woman that you are currently friends with. It's not crazy to assume that you want to be having sex with this woman. Somebody gave an appropriate answer to your question that used alot of euphemisms for sexual intercourse.
really? I've been all over your fair state, there are hills everywhere. Big ones. Looks like a fun project though, and yeah, if they sent me the junk I'd mount it to a rack and take some pictures.

Also, this place is really incredibly square when it comes to sex. Sorry, but it is.
Really? Can you explain that better or cite examples? Reading between the lines, it always like people had certain views or practices that they didn't weren't going to reveal in this public forum.
I too, really do find this place tending toward a den of sexual prudery, inconsistent with the general tenor of the site.
Really? It seems Mefi, as a group, is ok with just about anything as long as all parties know what's going on. But it has close to zero tolerance for lying, cheating or manipulating or general stupidity.
It's just that those of us who are really awesome about sex don't really waste time reading about other people's inadequacies and insecurities.

Because, really, that site?! Swift it ain't...
Really? But that's part of the joke. Stereotypically, country-bumpkin red-stater Americans will mispronounce foreign words, like, how do you say the country called Niger? Or how many people have pronounced by last name "Ball Batch" (Ballbach). It's the low-brow side of America. Fox News is the poster child of low-brow America. And there is also the whole French thing. The pun works on a number of levels. Anyway, I hate to analyze jokes because it kills them, and maybe not everyone sees it that way.
Really? See, I think I'd have way more respect for someone who stood up for their beliefs (even if I didn't agree) than those that are willing to put them aside for, well, for what? A brief moment of power?
I really don't get it - perhaps I'm just not understanding. I do know that I am interested in attending a rally opposed to this bizarre coalition and that's more politically motivated than I've ever been before. And while I always vote, I have never written an MP before today.
Really? I think it would do the exact opposite. People would misinterpret flags the same way they misinterpret favorites- as some sort of judgment on their worth as a poster. I can see the grudges now- "And to the three people who just flagged my comment as 'noise', fuuuuuuuuuck you!"
Really? That surprises me. I love the flagging system, I flag liberally (thought not in cases when I disagree with someone... at least, not regularly). Do the mods have a general feel for how many people are using the system, and how regularly? A lot of people using it sparingly, a small group using it extensively, or somewhere in between?
really? A question about foo? A post about bar?" This happens to me at least once a week with the front page of the blue, and I work here and have no diagnosed attention or attenuation disorders. It's really not that unlikely or I think uncommon of a phenomenon.
Really? Have you seen much porn? This is pretty tame.
really? Why haven't you built a Cone of Silence?
really?), I've been meaning to ask, are you Kirth instead of Kerth as the result of that kind of mishap, or as a deliberate choice?

Really?
Really? You're seriously denying the existence of sexism? Because that's what that "unknowable, unseen, unprovable force" that keeps women down is - except that it's entirely knowable, seeable, and provable. In the U.S., women are no longer denied the right to vote, run for office, own property, etc., but you do know that that's how things started, right? That society was structured against women (actually, it was structured to privilege white, property-owning men - keeping women down was just a cool side-effect!).

Really? It certainly isn't standard in Canada. The country to the south is never called America (though its inhabitants are called Americans and American is used as an adjective).
Really? How lascivious of them!

Really? That seems so odd.
It's something that just kind of comes with the job, and as much as I growl at the screen now and then when it happens it's not really that big of a deal—that it's as infrequent as it is is I think again a mark in Mefi's favor, that a community this big doesn't produce much in the way of flipouts and personal attacks even with thousands of comments flying around on the site every day.
Really? Let's look at the text of the FPP:a moment of great courage
Really? Clooney cannot act all. No range. Whatsoever. Whatever the character, he's George Clooney.
Now, I really like Clooney, enjoy his presence, etc, and that sort of response is probably why he's so successful, but he cannot act at all.

No, not really. Most of the comments consist of us playing Critic's Circle with a cast of male actors.

The butt thing dosen't bug me much either, since, as I've mentioned before, the ass is the one body part that we all-male or female, straight or gay-can enjoy. The 'exam' part is what's baffling to me. I was just at the doctor to day. he was very courteous and helpful, yes, but I really wasn't turned on.

Really? After January 8th there was one post announcing the arrest (this morning) and me thanking the person posting it. I would say that thread is dead.
really? The shooting death (January 1), last Wednesday's Oakland (January 7) riots and today's arrest have all been reported nationally and internationally on television, in print and online -- extensively. Among many sources -- ABC, AP, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, MTV, New York Times, UPI, USA Today, Wall Street Journal.

"She also gets really freaked out at times when she's asked to do things and may scream or hit."
Really? But anonymous still thinks that the kid simply doesn't like school? Screaming and hitting when requested to do her maths (or whatever) is pretty likely to be indicative of 'something going on', whether that is parenting issues or mental/emotional stuff, and homeschooling is unlikely to fix either of these. But anonymous sounds like they've pretty much rejected both these ideas already, thinks kid is 'wonderful' and just doesn't like that creativity-destroying 'authority', so I guess the kid will just struggle on with whatever problems they have. Poor kid.
Really? How many times have you actually sniffed out an imposter? You say "a lot of times" -- how many times have you personally done this? I'm not joking -- I'd be fascinated to hear about all the various circumstances in which you've outed fake Christians. And how do you verify this, by the way?

Really? Talk about the cardinal case of appropriation as art. Why didn't Duchamp credit the folks who designed that urinal? He unmistakably profited off of someone else's work. And Cortex, by stripping baseball players outside of the cards they appeared on, you're violating copyright and alienating those photographers from their work.
Really? I don't feel that way at all. I think they're substantially, substantively different. I would say in this case the first is weaseling, and he knew the appropriate thing to say would have been the second.

Really? I grew up in Baltimore, in a middle class neighborhood that was largely black. We put up with snowstorms and ice and the kids, black white or indian, were all out in the snow with our sleds, then snow shovels making money shoveling driveways. I don't really understand this call-out.
Really? It's pretty straightforward. Our dear MeFi is an undeniably left-leaning community, so in spite of the "mission statement" to use the Blue to share the Best of the Web, there will at times be threads on conservative and authoritarian excess. And while much of the community may well share the frustrations that inspire such comments, there are a few members here who express their aggravation with those whom they see as Unhelpful Citizens in obnoxious, borderline bigoted ways (viz. denouncing the entire populations of certain states & regions, unironically calling small-town Americans "peasants," etc.)

There was this question on Metatalk (I don't read the Blue at work, so maybe it's blowin' up there). And to the ones left that do have talent-are their handlers really letting them go to the cutting edge with it, or are they guided-or forced-to dumb it down for the masses?
Really?
Really? Whoa! So, you mean, like, the limit on how many questions you get to ask per week actually limits the number of questions you get to ask in a week? Who knew!?
really? As a progressive USAian, it seems to me that the politics on Metafilter trend pretty moderate. Is this just an example of a situation where people can't identify what the middle position is? Or have shifting social mores meant that traditional left-wing views are now moderate views? And the new-left-wing has to craft all new extremist opinions? Or is there confusion because people think the Democratic party is, on the whole, left-of-center (and therefore, any Democratic party ideals are left-of-center)?
really?
Really? Because welcome to the world. There's lots of stuff people don't know about, and as the holder of knowledge, it's hardly your place to get upset that someone you met at a party hasn't done their research.
Really? I though that was its raison d'tre.
REALLY?!"
Did you really think I wouldn't know you were directing that at me if you didn't preface it with my username?
Really?
Really?? You had no idea??
Really? Your powers of Internet telepathy are so far advanced that you can read the minds of people commenting from hundreds of miles away and know that they are thinking how she looks is her only trait?

Really? An off-hand fabulous joke isn't scary and/or creepy, at all, and I don't see the point of this callout, nor this scary/creepy characterisation of klang for making it. It was innocuous and lame-ish but mildly funny, but not deserving of a callout or labelling of the commenter a 'scary creep' for making it.
Really? Why? Spending more time on AskMe than FPPs would be too helpful, insufficiently snarky?
Really? I kind of hate mine, because I've kind of developed A Thing about pop-culture-reference humor, but then feel like a hypocritical bastard when I rail against it while posting from a pop-culture-reference username.
Really? I think "Wu-Thang Clan."
Really? A small subculture that gets shit on and hated on and misunderstood by almost everyone, that's the subject of hackneyed jokes and ridiculous stereotypes, but that nonetheless manages to maintain a self-sustaining culture that literally saves people's lives? Sounds metal as fuck. Or vegan as fuck, for that matter.
Really?
Really? Even the headline: "Glenn Beck Arrested For Canibal Murder of Dick Cheney and Sarah Palin in Satanic Orgy Ritual Gone Awry."

Really? Wow. Just wow.
Really? Can't we just agree that word choice aside, this profoundly harshed her mellow and then move on to discussing the ACTUAL ISSUE?
Really? I thought you guys were the ones saying don't bring up people's posting history. That was pretty disappointing.
Really? That sounds a bit farfetched", of which neither seems to move a discussion into better terrain and the eventual prove it/disprove it question doesn't put it any closer to a resolve for some people. I don't know. Not that either of these things are wrong, it's just something I see happen and I am curious why some people use it as a foxhole when battling it out.

If not, you probably don't really have all that much to fear.
Really? I feel like there are folks on the site whose argumentation devices seem permanently set to "burn the heretic!" I'm not even referring to you here, fff, but I guess I'm surprised you haven't seen it, and that you'd trust others when they say they reserve their bile for those who really deserve it. I mean, I don't hold any of your verboten opinions, and I've definitely felt the wrath.
really? I always thought that the Communist hardliners of the Soviet era had more in common personality wise with Republicans than Liberals. From a purely ideological standpoint they are totally different, but it seems like the ones who most aggressively defend the status quo are usually the same type of personality no matter what the status quo happens to be.

really? I know he'd angered some other Iranian bloggers with a few statements they felt were too conservative, and didn't he visit Israel and speak positively of the possibilities for peace as well? Wasn't the main speculation about his arrest related to that visit? If there's anything else that you know about, I'd love to hear it, but stating "it's not like he was just going about his daily business" to hint that there was...what, exactly? What do you mean by that? I'm honestly curious what information you have that leads you to say that.

Really? People threatened punishment on the mods unless favourites were removed instanto, without delay? They wrote greasemonkey scripts to try and circumvent the system? They, in short, threw their toys out of the pram? I haven't seen that anywhere, so "how much grief" is a bit rich, given what we're talking about in comparison.
really? What about X situation. Yes, X situation is going to be extreme. But it's not reductio ad anything, because the moral claim of pacifism is deliberately absolutely and explicitly includes violence as a defence to aggression against innocents.

Really? I think it's just coming from the common academic viewpoint that there are only two kinds of data, valid and invalid, and that publishing invalid data is misleading at best. Because people inevitably end up arguing using numbers that aren't even necessarily true.
Really? I didn't feel like anyone needed to be reminded to fear men. I feel more like men need to be reminded not to be (and how not to be) scary to women, and that's what the article was about, and many of the posts reinforced the reasons of WHY THAT IS.
really? dogma?-- and consistently dropping fighty and provocative comments in a thread which cause it, eventually, to shut down, like sand in a set of gears.

I was having a really keen day and then you came along and posted your stupid little Meta and now I'm just all angry and stressed and it's bumming me out.
If this was anyone else, I'd assume they were really trying to be all inclusive and just reminding us to think more globally, but since it's you I know the post is just here because you've got your underwear all up in a bunch again because you can't have your way.

really? Someone asks a question about making a survey for a christmas sale and THAT comes to mind? That is seriously messed up. The question (that you remembered from 2006!) doesn't even make reference to polling or surveys. Seriously, WTF.
really? Who?" and clicked on it; otherwise I didn't really care. I still think favourites as voting is gross.
Really? This never bothered me. I've always just favorited whatever thoughtful remarks were lurking around; I've also used contacts on the site since the beginning of my membership so it strikes me as a bit quaint that some are just discovering this functionality.
Really? If you're going to just make up a holiday can't you at least give it a catchier name? Something zippy like St Thankful Andrews Day or Scotsgiving. Otherwise it's never going to get it's own Charlie Brown TV special, which is how all great holidays are measured.
Really? You wouldn't say that about ANY other kind of group.

Really? I'm glad Demonoid is back, but usenet is where it's at though for home-grown DVR.
Really? Whatever for? I don't even have memberships to private torrent sites any more, but when I did, the reason was obsessive quality control. And demonoid sure shit doesn't have that.

Really? What happened to a site that respected everyone's personal beliefs? It's really weird how this is so distasteful to some people. Like, mysticism is okay when it's far away from us, but to meet someone who actually believes in these things physically disgusts people.

Really? I can't name five conservatives...on this site period.
Er? Could someone define "conservative"? Because I'm really quite conservative about some things, despite being a frothing liberal about other things.
Really? Would it? I propose that it would be just as trite, if not more so, to have a thread full of "what sad news"es, because I don't think many people would really mean it. I think the "." is a perfectly reasonable way to say "I don't have anything profound to say about this person's death, but I still think it's worth commemorating in some small way." In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's a noble thing to take the time to acknowledge a death that, let's face it, doesn't really mean anything to most of us, and not lie about that fact. And if a death is actually one that means something to one of us, I bet that person will have more to say about it than a dot.
Really? They were just-- Who brought a fucking goat in here?!
Really? In 2000? Which states had referendums? I remember the push in 2004, just not so much 2000 and the google is failing me (although I'm admittedly not trying very hard).

Really? Here's Tony Clifton on The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show. The artistry of Kaufman's Clifton routine is more apparent in the family friendly context of the Muppets: the terrible tap-dancing, the ridiculous audience participation, that beautiful moment Clifton's brought a stool to sit on... anyway... Tony Clifton's a hilarious riot. Here's Tony Clifton being more obnoxious on Dinah! but he's still funny. That duet with Dinah Shore at the end is just beautifully funny. Anyway... Kaufman as Clifton is funny.
I don't know, man. It seems really nerdy and pedantic to insist that Andy's version was the "real" version when Zmuda's existed simultaneously with Andy's, when it had Andy's blessing, and (by golly!) Andy always insisted he wasn't Tony at all, anyway.
Really? Scalia thinks he has some sort of magical view into how the founders would deal with telecom law? Puhleeze. Not to mention that the "Founders" were far from one mind on anything. It is a really intellectually shallow way to try and win arguments.
Really? All I see are stories of universities and companies ditching their $10k exchange cluster for Google Apps for domains and that seems to be working fine for everyone (works fine for me here). Again, the problem isn't Microsoft, but stupid decision makers that prefer to toss out a free open source system that works fine for a bloated expensive one that seems more businesslike (my wife's workplace did the same thing recently and it's totally stupid and a step backwards for everyone). That said, email and calendars are doing just fine without exchange and are no threat to how I communicate online.
Really? I haven't seen this app yet, because it's not available for my platform, but this kind of implied condescension towards endquote is uncalled for.
On preview, Artw, are you maybe confused about the Open and Sort-of Open Document Format? That's really funny..

I used to feel like this, but it seems a lot of people really do care, and really don't see their typos until they've hit Post Comment. But:
really? If it embarrasses you that much, what's so horrible about just posting a correction?
It annoys me a bit when I make a typo, and I can live with it, but what really chaps my ass is when someone drops a "this is how you use then/than" comment to correct you. There may be good intentions by correcting someone personally, but calling them out in a thread is just plain douchetastic.
really?) or learned helplessness. Nobody is trying to fool someone else.

Really? It seems like there's quite a lot of that. (the "for jokes" part at least; I wouldn't know about the "for privacy"). How is that different from a sock puppet?
really? God forbid someone who needs help with an intensely painful personal problem should get the help they need or commiserate with others! I say clear the space for more questions about what foods we can eat and video games!
Really? So, presumably, if you'd figured out how to bring a handmade gun and bullets on, or explosives in your underpants, that would potentially have been legal in your mind as long as the screeners didn't catch you? Just like speeding or murder are legal as long as you don't get caught?
Really? I had no idea I always thought that NSFW applied to anything on the site not safe for work, including porn-y AskMe threads.
MuffinMan: "And then one girl decided to go on a let them eat cake rant and get decide that the class war needed to be fought right here, right now, with a side helping of rage issues to boot."

Really? You can acknowledge that you get over-the-top in your personalized attacks in one breath and in the next claim that you're sure that's not what you did some other, long-forgotten time, when someone got seriously offended by it? It's incredible, sir.

Really? CRY ME A FUCKING RIVER.
Really? Because that footage contains no filmaking or editing in any real sense, its not film, but found security camera footage and the only angles are static and largely co-incidental. All in all there nothing of any real relevance to film making, certainly not the different angles in that clip, and if you had actually been in any way interested in any of this you might just have chosen to link to some actual filmmaking which illustrated this rather than random crash footage.
Really? Way to go for the low hanging fruit.

Really? Why? I enjoy puzzles too, but the existence of an answer for it does not change the state of the puzzle.
Really? Because I've pretty regularly come across [deleted] posted by [deleted] type posts, which are fucking useless. Perhaps they go back and remove all of their comments before deleting their accounts. Either way, it interrupts the conversations and harms the usability of the site.

Really? You're asking that?
Really, they're asking that. Migraines are some weird fucking neurological voodoo, and if you know about them you know that but if you don't know about them you'd never guess, because they're weird fucking neurological voodoo. I appreciate that metaxa set themself up for some reflexive "insensitive clod" come-backs, but there's no reason to give them a particularly hard time about an acknowledged ignorance about the details of the subject.

really?") I think when you live with a chronic medical condition, it's generally fine when people ask informational questions about it, and not so fine when people react skeptically to requests for accommodation. It's actually sort of the opposite of asking for information: in part, it seems to imply that the questioner knows more about the condition than the person who's suffering from it, and thus knows that the requested accommodation is not really necessary.

Really? You want to be That Person?
As best as I can remember it, the big to-do on Metatalk was not so much "shut up I can't live without my flash you lousy epileptic" so much as "at a way-bigger-than-normal event it may be hard to be sure you're safe from people using a flash without knowing there's a problem", really, with a little interpersonal friction on top in classic Metatalk fashion. I don't recall anyone in that thread actually saying anything like "me using a flash is more important than you not having a seizure", and it feels like kind of a cheap shot to suggest that's what actually happened. I may be forgetting some specific actually-going-there jerk, but it certainly wasn't the overriding thesis of the discussion.
Really?
Really? Also, no, you do not "get to" use derogatory gay slang because Carson Kressley does. You do not. Full stop. Say whatever you like, of course, but that choice sounds gross and hateful.

Really? Because about 68.4% of FPPs on the blue, I've run across on other sites first*. Sure, sites like Fark and Reddit aren't as eloquent in the post composition department, but the links are out there before they show up here. I'm not suggesting posters here repackage links from elsewhere, and then Splice Today snakes it from here. Before the people get out the pitchforks, this site may not be stealing content from Metafilter.
Really? I tend the other way - everyone is subject to seriously messed up, sexist thinking. Even Gloria Steinman and Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Michelle Obama and jessamyn and me (sorry, tried to think of the 5 coolest women I know). We all grow up in a seriously messed up, sexist culture. It's natural that "Wow, maybe it's PMS" seems like a good explanation to lots and lots of people. Even though it's not.
Really? What's up with that?
really? With the exception of La Jolla [l' HOY-uh] and San Jose [saano-ZAY], pretty much everything I can think of is anglicized. Arguello, Vallejo (OK, the "j" is silent), Los Banos--really, the only question is "Junipero," and I think [joo-NIP-arrow] is probably how most English-speakers would attempt it.

A post whose central hook is functionally "look at this bad thing" is going to be in trouble if there's not either some really substantive framing to defray the outrage-bait payload (e.g. a well-researched, well-presented roundup of info on the topic) or some really broadly compelling mitigating circumstance (e.g. major global catastrophe).
Really?
Really?
It's up to you how you want to play this, but if you want to have a discussion, use some words. If you're just angry and upset I'd really like to suggest you go find your happy place which I hope is not MetaTalk.
Really?
Really. I was pretty on the fence about that post too, honestly, and did not think it was great. If you're hoping to guide policy with a gotcha, it's not likely to work out that well because we're conflicted about this stuff too and don't really need to smacked around with evidence that this stuff is fuzzy to implement. Trust us, we really, really know.

Really? I always meant to look that line up.
Really? Huh. I didn't get the sense of tongue-in-cheek or winking in this post, or in the follow-ups. No big deal, and doesn't affect my reading of the whole situation (not great post, deleted, MetaTalk to talk about it, we talk about it - that's MetaFilter spinning in greased grooves as far as I am concerned), it's just an interesting diversion of interpretation.
really? Is it the lawyer that's costing so much?
Really?
Really?
Really? He was at my wedding. The night before the ceremony, he was incredibly cool about being summond to our hotel room to party by the extremely drunk quartet of me, pips, Zack Replica and elizard.
What the anecdotes did was make MetaFilter seem sane, and connected to the real world. Of course, we know that is not always an accurate description of our activity - but for people who don't have a functional web community to belong to, it's really food for thought that it can happen. It seems to go so much against what is developing as the conventional wisdom on comments and web communities.
really? It's hard to cast my mind back to the state of the web in 1999, which was a time I was offline a lot anyway because I was too poor to have a home PC and was teaching school before schools were well wired. I guess it didn't leap out at me when I began participating that here was discussion on the web, but I think that might be because before MeFi I used to hang out on BBSs, which had threaded comments. It seemed to me like just a format transition that worked with the more graphical nature of the web. But maybe the idea of weblog, that is, someone owns a space and publishes timed posts + comments, was more revolutionary on the burgeoning WWW than on the pre-existing internets.

The mods could consciously choose to figure out who is asking the sockpuppetted question if they had access to the paypal records, yes. But the mods can already figure out more or less who is asking a question if they really want to.
Really?
really? is that where the restaurants along the water used to be? Its so abandoned looking in the broad daylight
Really?
Really? It seems a little... ratty to me.
Really? Were they actually totally unaware that this sort of sentiment occurred in Scotland? I don't want to defend sgt.serenity, but a leaving-Metafilter reaction implies to me that this was unexpected and not-dealable with. Did they not know that the lyrics to 'Flower of Scotland' are basically a celebration of killing English people?
Really? Why do you care how how Asian-Americans self-identify?!?
Really? What are Americans claiming credit for: poutine? ranchera music? the poetry of Pablo Neruda? the magic of Brazilian football? Sorry, I don't see it. I think it's pure political posturing. (Not on your part, you're just trying to do the right thing, but on the part of the people who have convinced you that the term "American" is somehow oppressing millions. I personally, incidentally, have never met a non-U.S. inhabitant of the Americas who has objected to it, but hey, that's just one man's experience.)
Really? Y'all are slackers! Well, except maybe at your actual jobs and stuff. But still!)

REALLY? BECAUSE I THINK EVERYONE HAS PRETTY MUCH AGREED THAT WRITING IN ALL CAPS SHOULD BE FROWNED UPON. OR IS THAT FREE GAME NOW, TOO? (CROSSES FINGERS IN EAGER EXPECTATION OF THE VIGOROUS COMMENTING I SHALL MAKE IF THE CAPS LOCK BAN HAS BEEN RESCINDED.)
An older gentleman who had walked into the tech support office said: "Oh really, why is that?"

Really? The comments usually aren't all that great there you know. They can be amusing, but not much in the way of discourse occurs.

Really? I think it's that you know a MeTa thread is getting AWESOME when the recipes start appearing. One man's trash is another man's sweet deliciousness.
Really? This bothers you? Hmm, I do this all the time just for myself--a lot of tracks I find great but maybe a bit too long, so I often edit and mix. Guess I'll have to do it the old-fashioned way this time, but I'll throw it out there that if anyone's doing a big mix CD with tracks beatmatched and blended I totally don't mind.
really?
gman, if you can't see the difference, there really is none. You got me. Good on you.
Really? Where does this take place? Is it... frightening?
Really? Do you have no love or sunshine in your heart? Are you that concerned with the petty application of arbitrary rules that you can't appreciate one of the COOLEST GODDAMN THINGS I'VE SEEN ALL WEEK?
Really? Still shows stumped and resolved for me.

Really? Is this how the young people talk nowadays?
really?) and somehow managing to hit like seven different button-pushing topics in one shot make me suspicious. I mean, it's got a lot going on there. Misuse of ironic, bizarrely bad punctuation/spelling (but not consistently bad), the massive age difference, emotional abuse, sexism, irrelevant details about race, fedora-level self-aggrandizing nonsense about Ivy league schools (also irrelevant), boyfriend works on Wall Street (again, irrelevant). It seems calculated to start a shit-storm.
Marisa Stole the Precious Thing: “I've seen exactly what this young woman is describing on many occasions... Is it really that absolutely crazy to think that what this young woman is describing is true? If so, I envy your insulation. What she's talking about is all too common, actually.”
Really? All too common? How many "very attractive" black 18-year-old women attending Ivy League universities have you known who are dating, and planning to marry and have kids with, 52-year-old white collar professionals working on Wall Street?

Really? Annoyed and frustrated != enraged.
Seriously, I just went back and re-read all my comments in this thread, and I didn't see rage in any of them. Am I really that poor a judge of tone in writing?
Really?? Nooooo. Not really, right?
Really?? Nooooo. Not really, right?
No, of course no one ever does that, not really.
Really? It seems totally unanswerable to me. I feel like it fits the template of so many of the "tell me something interesting about yourselves" questions that are often deleted.
Really? Not quibbling, just genuinely interested; do people really write relative links, or what?
really? So suggesting crunchland might possibly have found a way to suggest it was time for another Best Post contest to remind folks about what MeFi's like when it's *really, really* good without directly embarrassing three long-term users who've contributed immensely to the site over the years because his taste in mindless entertainment is different than theirs is crazy?
Really. crunchland of all folks should have framed this better.
Really? Christ, what an asshole!
Really? Christ, what an asshole!
Still, I don't know why he has such a bug up his ass for the perceived quality of this site. For all his bitching and moaning the site has gone on as it goes, with a whole spectrum of quality of posts and comments. It's really tiresome and there is zero benefit in approaching things like that. We're not shareholders in a corporation here; we're content generating users. But, in his defense and reading charitably, that silly "gay up" comment wasn't mean spirited or homophobic--it was more of the same grumpiness about perceived quality or variety.
Really? And if yes, is there anything we can do to help?
Really?

Really? Because that's pretty much exactly what you're doing when you start a MetaTalk thread to discuss if the questions were written by real people. Both struck me as absolutely believable.

Oh, and kate_blank, I really don't think that's fair. I'm sure you've questioned some AskMes as well? It's not the same as saying, "That's a bad question and you are bad for asking it."
really? As far as annoying in-jokery/this month's stupid meme goes I initially found it not that horrible, but that revelation, coupled with the way it's become such a passive-aggressive wanky "Who wants ginger snaps?!?" way to direct the conversation, makes me actively despise it.
It seems like this particular asker is set up really badly to be a test case; everything in the way it's phrased screams "selfish tax evader."
Really? That's the first thing that comes to mind? It screams "not able to work legally" to me. There's no federal income tax to evade on $700 a month, and while, yes, there are FICA and other withholdings you have to pay at that income level, it does not seem at all likely to me the asker is going to all this trouble to evade those withholdings (and they're awful regressive taxes anyway, not that it's relevant).
Really? That's the first thing that comes to mind? It screams "not able to work legally" to me.”
Really? They would know that? I would think that people who work for the cia are supposed to be you know discrete. Like all of the drug running they are doing out of Afghanistan as we speak.

Really? In other words, IMHO, "I agree with Artw – Jessamyn, I respectfully opine this was a bad call." reads pretty disingenuously to me. Nor is it respectful.
Really? No posts about terrorist attacks? Hurricanes? Earthquakes? Global warming? Global warming deniers? The Tea Party? Crazy Nazi plots? Hiroshima? There are many good posts that point out how horrible something is. The imaginary line for letting those stand and killing others is not whether some are "look at these assholes" or not. In every post in which "look at these assholes" is used as a justification for deletion, there is something more meaningfully wrong with the post. I humbly suggest that in the future the mods use more detailed and/or precise explanations for why a post is deleted.

I genuinely was not unaware that there was some kind of community thing going on here. I really and truly just thought people could say whatever they wanted.
Really? You really can't tell the difference between MetaFilter and the utter trash heap that is the rest of the internet? This statement alone is so hard to swallow as sincere that I'm really tempted to call troll.
Really? Sign of weakness, man, total sign of weakness. You can't argue the point so you try to pull rank.

Really? Curious to know how much time you've spent traveling outside of the U.S.? All in all, I've spent about 10 years on the road and never run into any drug-related issues aside from the one I wrote about. It's pretty darn easy to cheaply buy yourself out of a shitty predicament, so long as you nip it in the bud and don't let it escalate.

Really? Capitol Hill is so NIMBY that they even have signs up protesting against the construction of a nursery school. I guess they're thinking, "We don't want those degenerate toddlers messing up our neighborhood!" But I don't think this is limited to Capitol Hill -- it seems like every neighborhood in DC is bizarrely against anything good or new, from restaurants in Bloomingdale to mariachis in Mt. Pleasant. I think it's a big contributor to DC's general suckitude.

Really? Those are the words you're choosing to single out? A bit of obvious hyperbole on my part?
Really? I find a lot of people on here pretty forgiving (sure, we can all be pricks at times, but it feels like a community to me). When considered in relation to the rest of the fucking web it's a pretty dramatic difference actually. We're talking about the green here, not the blue or grey, right?
So I was talking to a friend of mine, a professor, who was cleaning out her closet. She came upon (what she said was) a really nice suit she had rarely worn, and spoke reluctantly of how she was going to have to donate it. "But why?" I asked, "since you say it's a really nice suit." I was informed that it was 15 years out of date, and she just could never wear it again; it was much too dated.
really? My husband is still wearing a suit he got 15 years ago. Why should a women's suit be different? So she explained to me what stylistic elements had made it a very nice suit when she bought it, but made it out of date now. (Kinda went over my head. I'm not to big on that sort of thing. I was convinced, though, that at least she wasn't just tossing it for no reason.)
I'm so glad that MY work uniform was boots, jeans and a henley or polo embroidered with my business logo. Sometimes breeches, if it was really, really hot. Having to navigate not just fashion, but what's fashionable NOW as compared to when I might have bought (whatever) would probably drive me insane.
Really? You go up to random strangers on the street and tell them how they should dump that loser, or throw that terrible shirt into the fire? Of course you don't, you're totally full of shit.

Really? I think it was very clear in the text what sort of thing happened, even if the specifics were were not written out. And I suspect people who say that they had no idea what was hapening either didn't watch the video or were getting their 'is this something you'd have to like sports to understand' on. And in my humble opinion, if you aren't going to watch the link, and the topic of the thread is something you actively don't care about, why not just stay the hell out of that thread completely?
Really? I think it was very clear in the text what sort of thing happened, even if the specifics were were not written out.

Really? It's a pretty clear cut case of copyright infringement without much grey area. I don't really see what's unique or fascinating about this, aside from the fact that the Cooks Source person is clearly kind of insane. Hilariously insane, but still. This should probably go in the original thread.
Really? I mean, I've only got the first five episodes here so far (BBC America's OnDemand thing has 'em), and I'll be a little disappointed if they're all retreads. Though the one with the antagonistic ex-con, I don't remember from the original series (though it may well exist). Probably a Ben Stone one.

The policy here seems to be more of a general request that people not be assholes to each other. Starting a sentence with "really" seems like it could be dickish to me, and definitely isn't starting on the most civil tone, but it's really going to be the rest of the sentence that defines it.
Really? It's not getting great reviews.

I thought all you were asking for, really, is that people act like thoughtful, articulate adults? If that's what you want, shouldn't you be doing that, instead of pissing around in MeTa?
